On a day of a very strong wind Naomh Malachi deserved to take the point in a game they dominated for long periods. Roche started well but missed a handful of early chances, a number of them goal chances. The Kevin Rogers opened the scoring with a point and was involved in much of the Malachis good play from that point until half time, with his team 1-7 to 0-1 in front. Rogers capping a good first half performance with  a point on the stroke of half time. Mark Meegan was also on song with 1-3. Roche’s only score was a Dermot Carthy point as Roche fluffed score after score.

In the second half the visitors continued in with their domination on the play but found scores less easy to collect into the strong wind. The Malachis afirmed the belief that they were certainties to win, when they struck their second goal four minutes into the second half. Roche tagged on a few points from Dermot Carthy, Philip Quinn and Enda Murphy but the Malachis were still well in control of the game around the middle of the field. But with the arrival of Kevin Callaghan, Bernard McConnon and young Andrew Carroll onto the Roche team there was a sudden change and  much of David Quigley’s good work began to pay dividents. Following an Enda Murphy point Bernard McConnon popped up with a goal on the 20 minutes mark. Then Kevin Callaghan scored 1-3 to make the score 2-10 to 2-8 in favour of the visitors. But the Malachis held out and added the final point before the end to win by three.
