This game was played on a dry evening with a sharp brisk breeze blowing diagonally down the field towards the town centre. Roche fielded a much changed 15 from that on duty in the Division 2 league game at the same venue ten days previous and had a number of last years minor panel on board. The Gaels had the advantage in physique and had in Sean McCann a player that the Roche team could not contain. He gave a outstanding performance and scored some excellent scores from play and placed balls, from all distances and angles up to 50 metres from the target. From the seventh minute when the Gaels scored their first goal Roche never recovered and did not get any closer to the Gaels than a three point margin for the remainder of the game. However Roche never gave up and played honestly throughout. Roche: Aidan McCoy, James Tiffney, Harry O'Connell, Tom Quigley , Philip Quinn, Liam Carthy, Duane Callan, Darren McConnon 1pt, Bernard McConnon, Enda Murphy 1pt, Barry McConnon, Robert O'Hanlon, Dermot Carthy 1pt, Owen O'Hare 2pts, Barry O'Hare 2pts. Subs: John Leveins 1pt, Karl Muckian, Colm Kirk, David O'Connell. [Report: Eamonn Reilly] |
