played in drogheda this opening group 3 senior championship encounter didn't produce any surprises, although the dreadnots, who were never under any serious pressure, will need to sharpen up in front of goal
the clogherhead men started the quickest and after 3 pts from peter kirwan liam shevlin and fergal mc guigan they led 0-03 to 0-01 after 5min st marys score coming from an alan kirk free, for the following 15min dreadnots dominated proceedings after a superb solo goal from pat lynch put them in the driving seat. james califf cian mcevoy conor campbell all chipped in with singles and a paudi clarke point for st.marys left it 1-06 t0o 0-02 on 20min. st.marys then scored with a point from mark gorman before a james califf '45 for dreadnots and the ardee men finished the half by reducing the dreadnotds lead to 5pt with another gorman point and a superb side line point from brian mc coy
st marys started the 2nd half rejuvinated and took the game to the seasiders, a point from paudi clarke who was held to only two pts by anthony williams and two from county man ronan caroll left them only two behind after 40min. dreadnots stemed the flow after that and had they not been so wastefull in front of goal, kicking a total of 10 wides in the 2nd half, they would have won more comfortable.however peter kirwan liam shevlin and chris mulroy did hit the target and their side led 1-10 to 0-08 on 59 mins. St Marys to their credit weren't finished yet and the consession of a very soft goal by dreadnots left 2 between the sides on 62min but a brilliant long distance effort from califf sealed it for the clogherhead men.
