Joe Kernan Book

Well I suppose I should say sign at the Joes, but I thought the headline would grab your attention! The enigmatic Joe Kernan has just recently released his autobiography and he will be signing copies of it in the Joes clubrooms in Dromiskin on Friday the 9th December from 9pm. The book is written with the assistance of top GAA journalist Martin Breheny and is one of only six titles to be shortlisted for the prestigious William Hill Irish Sports Book of the Year.

For forty years, Joe Kernan has been a giant presence on Ireland's Gaelic football fields, first as an outstanding player with Crossmaglen Rangers, Armagh and Ulster, and later as a successful manager of all three. A dual All Star award winner, his Armagh senior years lasted for sixteen years. As a team manager he broke through new frontiers, first with Crossmaglen and then with Armagh, guiding both to All-Ireland titles. Without a Shadow of a Doubt is Joe Kernan's honest and entertaining account of his career as one of the country's top players, followed by a fascinating insight into the pressurised world of team management with his native club and county, and later in a short spell with Galway. Away from sport, he had to deal with personal tragedies, including the death of his father when he was a child, the suicide of his younger brother and the death of his infant son. In 2010, he faced another major challenge when he was declared bankrupt. In his autobiography, Joe Kernan deals with his personal traumas and provides an inspiring blueprint on how to harness the positives and overcome the difficulties life delivers.
